2013 At A Glance - Annual Report

Dear Friends, It is with sincere gratitude that I thank you on behalf of our team and the communities we serve for making 2013 _x0003_an incredible year for Conscious Alliance. This past year has been one of growth and transition. After three years _x0003_of dedication and service, Jenny Mueller moved on from her position as Development Director and we welcomed _x0003_Cathryn Folkestad as Executive Assistant and the newest member of our team. We would like to thank Jenny for _x0003_her contributions and wish her luck in all of her future endeavors._x0003__x0003_ In our eleven years of service, Conscious Alliance has continued to expand its mission to support communities in _x0003_crisis through hunger relief and youth empowerment. Our commitment to distribute much-needed food and basic _x0003_necessities across the United States continued to grow in 2013, and we made huge strides in our effort to provide _x0003_long-term solutions to hunger by focusing on empowerment programs for youth in impoverished regions of the _x0003_country. Your contributions and the unwavering hard work and commitment of our staff allowed Conscious Alliance to _x0003_enhance our programing tremendously. Our ongoing goal is to keep our overhead low while increasing our service _x0003_in the field, and you have truly made this possible! In 2013, we were able to significantly increase funding towards programming by 34% from 2012 for a total of _x0003_$811,200. Together with artist David Hale, we brought our first ‘Art That Feeds’ youth art workshop to Pine Ridge _x0003_Reservation. We installed a fully functional ‘Learning Garden’ and created an after school gardening program for _x0003_students of Pine Ridge Elementary School. The garden is now a permanent fixture in the school’s curriculum and _x0003_serves as a cause for excitement about education and a source of fresh produce for students. In September, our home state of Colorado was hit with a flooding disaster that destroyed homes and roadways, _x0003_displacing thousands. In response, Conscious Alliance established a flood relief fund. Our supporters stepped up _x0003_to help their neighbors in an inspiring show of generosity. Together, we hosted community gatherings, established _x0003_an ongoing donation center and free store, and rebuilt local schools’ music and arts programs. Conscious Alliance is stronger than ever due to our continually expanding community that comes together to _x0003_donate their time, resources, and talent in support of our important mission. This year alone, we worked with 24 _x0003_bands and musicians, as well as 21 festivals. Our artists donated over 68 poster designs for our ‘Art That Feeds’ _x0003_Food Drives and our volunteers logged over 7,220 hours. Our Board of Directors helped us dramatically increase _x0003_our donor base and our Advisory Board offered their expertise to assist us in expanding our programming. Thank you for wholeheartedly being a part of the Conscious Alliance movement. It is an honor to work with all of _x0003_you. We have so much to look forward to in 2014!
