Help us eradicate hunger in the U.S. by becoming a member
of Conscious Alliance today!
Meet Pine Ridge, South Dakota...
Imagine living in a community of 30,000 people on a piece of land the size of Connecticut.
But what makes this different is there is only one full-service grocery store
for the entire area. For the residents of Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, this is their reality.
As Neil Grimmer, co-founder and former CEO of Plum Organics says:
In America, food insecurity is not a calorie crisis—it's a nutrition crisis. Getting access to healthy options is almost impossible for families in some of our communities. I saw that first hand when I visited Pine Ridge.
In the U.S. hunger can feel distant. As if it were a crisis experienced by people continents away. But 1 in 8 Americans are going hungry.
In isolated places like Pine Ridge, where over 90% of Oglala Lakota live below or at the poverty line, hunger and poverty are systemic.
Conscious Alliance uses a three-tiered approach to help communities in crisis, like Pine Ridge:
- Emergency food relief to communities across the United States;
- Nutrition, exercise, and gardening education for youth in economically isolated Native American Reservations; and
- Youth empowerment programs
On Pine Ridge Reservation, we've been able to feed thousands of families through both special programming as well as a large food bank we helped open and operate.
Of course, all of this work is impossible without support from dedicated Conscious Alliance members
. Members play a critical role in alleviating hunger and poverty in communities like Pine Ridge and throughout the U.S.
Join us in our fight against hunger. This month, new members will receive special gifts like exclusive Conscious Alliance poster art. For as little as $10 a month, you can provide groceries to a family in need.
