CONSCIOUS ALLIANCE DISTRIBUTES OVER 37,000 MEALS IN SUMMER 2011

BOULDER, Colorado (August 22, 2011) - Conscious Alliance, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to hunger relief, has once again had an extremely successful summer on the road. Traveling from coast to coast, the organization was able to bring food to communities in need across the United States by hosting food drives at a variety of music festivals. Due to the generosity of festival attendees around the county, the organization was able to collect and distribute over 37,000 meals to local food pantries. The Conscious Alliance team members found themselves journeying nationwide, with large fundraising opportunities at the following events: Wanee Music Festival in Florida; Hangout Music Festival in Alabama; Summer Camp Music Festival in Illinois; Wakarusa Music Festival in Arkansas; Re:Generation in Oregon; Electric Forest in Michigan; High Sierra Music Festival in California; and All Good Music Festival in West Virginia. The nonprofit saw tremendous support from the festivalgoers, the organizers and promoters of the events, and the artists who created an ‘Art That Feeds’ poster for each festival. The posters were used as an incentive for people to donate food to the cause; each person who brought food to an event was given a free poster in exchange for their donation. “We couldn’t have had such a successful summer without the generosity of our world-class poster artists. They continue to donate their time and talents, creating incredible ‘Art That Feeds’ event posters. It was amazing to experience such a sense of giving from the entire festival community,” said Justin Levy, Operations Director of Conscious Alliance. All the non-perishable food items collected at each festival stayed within the local community. After each event, the donations were delivered to a food pantry in the festival region. Company sponsors also contributed to such a successful summer of distributing food. Ben & Jerry’s, producer of a wide variety of super-premium ice cream and ice cream novelties, was the official sponsor of Conscious Alliance at Wanee Music Festival in April. Whole Foods Market, the leading retailer of natural and organic food, donated the first 4,000 pounds of product to kick off the food drive at Re:Generation at Horning’s Hideout. With summer events coming to an end, Conscious Alliance is now focusing on events for the fall of 2011. In addition to the traditional food drives, Conscious Alliance is also focusing attention on youth programs on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota and the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Montana. These programs are intended to help the younger generation uphold a strong relationship to their culture, community, and themselves. “We plan to host several large-scale food drives this fall, and will continue our goal of developing more youth programs on the reservations,” said Jenny Mueller, Administrative Director of Conscious Alliance. “We are very excited to be working on some new endeavors, and hope to bring the momentum of the summer into our fall projects.”
