CA Kind Causes

We have teamed up with KIND Snacks to be featured as one of this month’s KIND Causes!

Each month, Kind Snacks gives $10,000 to a cause through their Kind Causes campaign – we have been accepted to enter Conscious Alliance’s cause into the running for July! The cause that generates the most votes by July 31st receives the $10,000 award to fund their project!

WE NEED YOUR HELP to secure the most votes so that we can use the award to provide 10,000 HEALTHY MEALS for community members in need on Pine Ridge Reservation, where we operate our full-time emergency food pantry.

Thank you for your support in helping us provide much-needed nutritious food to one of the most economically isolated and disadvantaged communities in our country.

Roughly the same size as Connecticut, Pine Ridge Reservation is home to a population of over 30,000 Oglala Lakota people. The unemployment rate hovers between 80-85%, and 91% of the population lives under the federal poverty line.

Many families live in extremely substandard housing – with an average of 17 people per household – with no electricity, telephone, running water, or sewage systems.

The population of Pine Ridge Reservation suffers damaging health conditions including high rates of diabetes, heart disease, infant mortality, and malnutrition. Many of these conditions stem from poor nutrition and a lack of access to healthy foods. Life expectancy is only 48 years for men and 52 years for women – lower than any community in the western hemisphere outside of Haiti.

Since 2005, we have operated a full-time emergency food pantry on Pine Ridge Reservation that provides meals to hundreds of critically food-insecure families each month. Our natural food partners make it possible for us to provide nutritious food for our food bank recipients on the reservation. Providing healthier options to the usual USDA supplied processed foods is critical in this population, where so many rely on emergency food for their family’s survival.
