Phil & Friends
Renowned for his three-decade stint as the bassist with the Grateful Dead, Phil Lesh proved a fan favorite as much for his distinctive jazz playing as for his single-minded devotion to the band, overseeing the quality of every legitimate release. Phil & Friends is not a traditional group in that several different lineups of musicians have played under the name while always exploring and interpreting Grateful Dead music. The band initially teamed up with Conscious Alliance for an unforgettable 8-night run at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC. In the summer of 2006, the decision for Conscious Alliance to do a full Phil and Friends tour proved wise after the collection and distribution of thousands of pounds of food and donations.
