We use art as the incentive to inspire people to donate to our cause. Concertgoers who participate in our ‘Art That Feeds’ Food Drives receive a limited edition concert poster for making a suggested donation of non-perishable food items, or a recommended monetary donation. The artist, who retains creative control over the image, donates the art that we use for the poster, while we cover all printing costs.
The food donations we collect are locally distributed to Feeding America Food Bank affiliates in the town or city in which the event takes place. Since our inception in 2002, we have collected and distributed over 1.6 million pounds of food to communities in need across the United States. The money we raise is used to purchase and deliver food in large bulk quantities to Native American Reservations across the United States.
The primary communities we currently serve are the Pine Ridge and Lame Deer Reservations, where we deliver large supplies of donated and purchased foods, and personal supplies. In 2005 we constructed an emergency food bank on Pine Ridge Reservation. This facility gives us the capacity to operate an Emergency Food Relief effort that is designed to provide assistance to hundreds of families during times of crisis and at the end of the month, when many families have exceeded their budgets and cannot afford to purchase food. The food bank on Pine Ridge is one of our primary ongoing projects, and we keep this facility permanently stocked with food at all times.
