This past Saturday February 18th, Conscious Alliance partnered with the Stronghold Society, a nonprofit organization based out of Colorado, to host our first of many youth art workshops. Conscious Alliance was grateful to have our friend and longtime supporter, Robert Marx, in attendance to offer artistic guidance and support for the nine youth participants in the workshop.

I am happy to report to you that 2011 has been another outstanding year for Conscious Alliance. We have dramatically increased services delivered in the field while maintaining control over administrative costs. The primary management team of Justin Levy and Jenny Mueller has excelled in streamlining the efficiency of the organization without sacrificing the heart Conscious Alliance is known for.

In October 2011, Conscious Alliance sponsored a Coming of Age Gathering, held by Yellowbird, Inc, an American Native non-profit organization. The Gathering took place at one of the most beautiful and sacred sites for the Northern Cheyenne: Bear Butte, in South Dakota. 10 males and 10 females from the Northern Cheyenne Reservation participated in the gathering, with elders, speakers, and presenters guiding and chaperoning the youth while at Bear Butte.

Conscious Alliance is initiating a series of art workshops for native and non-native youth, beginning in the Boulder/Denver area. Rest assured however because the Conscious Alliance ‘Art That Feeds’ campaign keeps on giving no matter what time of year, thanks in large part to the amazing generosity of our fans and friends like you. As a friend of Conscious Alliance since it’s early inception, I am proud to be a part of this community that gives of itself every day of the year in so many various ways.

Delivery Produce Company, an organic fruit and vegetable delivery service, is donating 500 lbs. of organic produce to kick off the Conscious Alliance ‘Art That Feeds’ Food Drive at the STS9 ‘Great Cycle Spectacle’ shows at the Congress Theater in Chicago on January 20th and 21st, 2012.

On January 8th-14th, Conscious Alliance will be joining our community partners Yellow Bird Inc. to sponsor the Fort Robinson Spiritual Outbreak Run, a 400-mile journey from Fort Robinson, Nebraska to Busby, Montana. The run was created as a way for Northern Cheyenne youth to pay homage to their ancestors that broke out of Fort Robinson on January 9, 1879. Most of them were killed at this time, but a few survived and made it to their homeland, the Powder River country in Southeastern Montana and the current location of the Northern Cheyenne Reservation.

Conscious Alliance rang in 2012 by joining STS9 to host an ‘Art That Feeds’ Food Drive during their five night New Year’s Run at the Tabernacle in Atlanta, Georgia. This year marks the 10th anniversary of our organization, and STS9 has been one of our primary supporters since the very beginning.

After 14 shows in 16 days, the String Cheese Incident’s “Roots Run Deep” tour came to a close with a grand finale in Chicago. Together with the help of the String Cheese Incident and all the generous fans in their community, we were able to raise over 12,400 pounds of food along the entire tour to help feed those in need.

On December 17 & 18, 2011, Conscious Alliance hosted our annual holiday toy delivery. Thanks to our sponsor Jakks Pacific, we were able to distribute over 1,500 toys to children on Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota and the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Montana. Due to your overwhelming support, Conscious Alliance was able to send teams to both the Northern Cheyenne and Pine Ridge Reservations this past weekend to distribute a truck full of healthy food to each community. Collectively we distributed upwards of 7,000 meals to the reservations!

On Saturday November 12th, Conscious Alliance teamed up with the all-vocal hip-hop group Urban Method and the Colorado-based nonprofit The Stronghold Society to create a movement through the power of music and collaboration. Under the direction of Urban Method—who is currently competing on NBC’s singing competition show The Sing Off — native and non-native youth joined forces to share in a ‘Live Life Call To Action’ message through music.

STS9 and Conscious Alliance are happy to announce they will be teaming up to host an ‘Art That Feeds’ Food Drive at the Congress Theater in Chicago, IL on January 20th & 21st, 2012. Grassroots California has created a 2-panel poster set that will be available to all patrons that donate 10 non-perishable food items per panel or 20 items for the set to the Food Drive. Monetary donations are also accepted for the poster set.

With the beautiful mountain of Bear Butte in the background, about 20 Northern Cheyenne youth, chaperones, cooks, and speakers gathered at the Bear Butte Lodge just outside of Sturgis, South Dakota for the first Coming of Age Gathering on October 21st – 23rd. This Thanksgiving Season we will be hosting our 8th Annual Holiday Meal Delivery, taking place November 17-20, 2011. Last year, Conscious Alliance distributed over 10,000 holiday meal boxes to Native American households on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota and the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Montana.

On Saturday, October 15th, Conscious Alliance was honored to help sponsor the opening of the Wounded Knee 4-Directions Skatepark on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. In 2011, Conscious Alliance began sponsoring a drum workshop on Pine Ridge Reservation. The workshop is designed as a four-week program for 4th – 8th graders, and travels to multiple schools around the reservation throughout the year.
