Last weekend Conscious Alliance had the opportunity to sponsor the ONE Gathering—Skate for Life event held in Denver, Colorado. This skateboarding competition brought together Native American youth and the youth of Denver to inspire confidence, creativity, hope, and ambition for the youth of both native and non-native communities. The event also encouraged youth to take action to live a healthy life in mind, body, and spirit through the diverse means of skateboarding, arts, and creative movements.

It was a successful day at the Denver Skate Park, as hundreds of youth competed in events ranging from the Under-12 Skate to the Advanced Open. Not only were there a significant number of youth participants, but there were also plenty of supporters who brought a positive energy to the event, all for the benefit of the youth. “It was great to see how excited everyone was about this event. It really shed light on what a positive impact the youth can have on their communities through creative means like skateboarding,” says Claire McGillem, a Conscious Alliance intern.

The ONE Gathering—Skate for Life is one of many youth programs that Conscious Alliance supports. The Stronghold Society, who organized this event, recognizes the important role of youth on reservations throughout the country. Conscious Alliance was happy to be a part of an event that echoes our mission to promote a positive relationship between native youth and their communities.

April Food Delivery to Pine Ridge

In April, the Conscious Alliance team, accompanied by Advisory Board member Mike Bank and his family, made a trip up to Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota in a fully loaded twenty-two foot Penske truck. We carried with us over 4000 pounds of food that was donated by our generous community at Food Drives at recent music events, along with a plethora of clothing and other donated items.

We are very excited to team up with STS9 this weekend to host a Food Drive at the Fox Theater in Oakland, CA on April 20th & 21st! Mars-1 has created a poster that will be available to all patrons who donate 20 non-perishable food items to the Food Drive.
