Conscious Alliance was recently a proud supporter of ‘The Longest Walk’ as it entered Pine Ridge Reservation on March 31st. The Longest Walk is a 5000+ mile walk across America from Portland, Oregon to Washington, DC. The Longest Walk was created to bring awareness to diabetes, and to demonstrate how this disease can be fought by changes in lifestyle and diet. Diabetes is extremely common on Native American Reservations as a result of poverty and little government support. Conscious Alliance donated food to the to make sure the ‘Walkers’ had a healthy meal upon arrival on Pine Ridge.

The Longest Walk participants will be visiting various Native American Reservations throughout their journey across the country. In Pine Ridge, they held a number of presentations on diabetes education and screening, as well as presentations on active lifestyles. They also performed songs and set up dances for the community members of the reservation.

April Food Delivery to Pine Ridge

In April, the Conscious Alliance team, accompanied by Advisory Board member Mike Bank and his family, made a trip up to Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota in a fully loaded twenty-two foot Penske truck. We carried with us over 4000 pounds of food that was donated by our generous community at Food Drives at recent music events, along with a plethora of clothing and other donated items.
