Fifth Annual
Holiday Meal Deliveries
This Thanksgiving Season, we will be hosting our 5th Annual holiday food delivery November 21-24, 2008. Last year, Conscious Alliance distributed 1,500 holiday meal boxes to Native American households in South Dakota, Montana, and Louisiana. Each box contained one 15 lb. frozen turkey, one 10 lb. bag of potatoes, assorted canned vegetables, and stuffing.
This year's effort is being sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Region of Whole Foods Market with a donation of $10,000 and the ability for us to purchase the highest quality food products at the best available pricing! Our goal is to distribute upwards of 2,500 holiday meal boxes and expand the outreach to include multiple communities in New Mexico and our local Denver area.
A donation of $15 or more
will
provide one frozen turkey to a family in need this holiday
season. Donate

Summer Re-Cap
This summer was the culmination of six years of hard work and dedication from Conscious Alliance staff, volunteers, and supporters. At the top of our highlights was the newly established Guinness World Record for the
largest Canned Food Structure, which took place at the the Rothbury Music Festival. With graduate and undergraduate level architecture students from Montana State University quarterbacking the project, we constructed a massive sculpture using 47,725 canned food items, donated by Whole Foods Market. Wiggle Puppy Productions were on site all weekend to document this amazing feat. Check out the video here!
Conscious Alliance continued to raise the bar all summer by collecting over 50,000 lbs. of food donations through our "Art that Feeds" campaign. We also successfully executed 4 Rebel Alliance Jams showcasing some amazing musicians new to the Conscious Alliance member network, including members of; The Black Crowes, The North Mississippi Allstars, Mike Gordon (Phish), The New MasterSounds, Grace Potter (Grace Potter and the Nocturnals), and Brett Dennen. Even in these tough economic times, Conscious Alliance has been able to generate the funding necessary to carry out it's projects and mission. Thank you to all of our many supporters throughout the summer of 2008.
Finally, in the wake of Hurricane Gustav and Ike, Conscious Alliance was able to deliver 40,000 pounds of natural and organic food products donated by Whole Foods Market to disaster victims in America’s Gulf Coast region. In partnership with ARRR (American Rainbow Rapid Response) and CDR (Christian Disaster Response), over 15,000 free meals were served from emergency kitchens in Louisiana and Texas. |

Back to School Snack Tour, Featuring Hot Buttered Rum Documentary
Recently, the band Hot Buttered Rum accompanied us on a very memorable service trip. Following a 2-night concert run at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, they helped load a 26 ft. box truck full of healthy snacks, donated by Whole Foods Market, in preparation for our departure to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. On the Reservation, Hot Buttered Rum performed at three unforgettable assemblies and helped distribute healthy food to the students at the Wolf Creek Tribal School. We were fortunate to have Adrien Robert of Freestyle Movement [FsM] accompany us on the trip and produce a short documentary. It is posted for your viewing pleasure here!

Global Meltdown: Twin crises of finance,
food may prove catastrophic (Bangkok Post Online)
As world leaders struggle to halt the crisis spreading across the global financial markets, analysts and economists are attempting to gauge the magnitude of this meltdown. It has catastrophic potential. High food prices, food shortages, and the steady erosion of agriculture and rural economies all contribute to this dilemma. Food availability and affordability are the bedrocks of any society. Food Prices attained historic lows during the Great Depression, Black October and the Asian Economic Crisis. No matter how dire the situation, food was still plentiful and cheap.
Today, the story significantly differs. Shorter food supplies and rising prices have dramatically escalated the crisis. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization, food prices rose by 9% in 2006, 24% in 2007, and surged 51% in the past 12 months. Coupled with an economic crisis of the enormity taking place today, the rising food prices become disastrous. Now, more than ever, agencies like Conscious Alliance need your help. Please visit our website for more information on how to donate or get involved.

Donor Spotlight: STS9
We would like to give a special thanks to STS9 for donating $.25 from each ticket sold on their 2008 summer concert tour. STS9 guaranteed these funds last spring so that Conscious Alliance would be able to take full advantage of a new partnership with Whole Foods Market.
The result was over $10,000 directed to the shipping and distribution costs for over 300 tons of organic and natural food products, valued at $1 million. Their donation also gave us the ability to send food aid for disaster relief efforts in the Gulf Coast. STS9’s continuous support of the Conscious Alliance goes far beyond monetary donations. Earlier this week, the band spent their day off, in New Orleans, LA, delivering a full truck of organic food to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana. |
